There are 20 Counts in the Kihon Kata wherein Counts 1, 3, 5, 9, 11, 13, 17, and 19 are the blocking techniques.
In the Sokugi Kihon Kata (Foot Technique Fundamental Forms), those same counts represent the Yoko Geri (Kansetsu, Chudan, Jodan).
Counts 3, 5, 9, 11, 13, 17, and 19 change direction.
Counts 3, 9, and 17 involve one leg stepping back into Kosa Dachi (Cross Legged Stance) to turn into stance facing 180 or 270 degrees.
Counts 5, 11, and 17 involve the lead leg stepping out at a 90 degree towards the next direction.
Sokugi Kihon Kata don't utilize blocks, but do utilize variations of Side Kick
These Kata are simplified forms in comparison the the Jin no Kata of Motobu ha Shito Ryu under the late Kuniba Shogo.
All Kihon Kata are performed in Zenkutsu Dachi (Forward Leaning Stance).
The Jin no Kata utilize Neko Ashi Dachi, Zenkutsu Dachi, and more
The Kiai for all of the Kihon Kata (and the derivatives) are on counts 8 and 16.
Our Yoi Dachi/ ready position is not the Musubi Dachi of traditional Japanese Karate, but the Heiko Dachi with bent knees and signature crossed arm bow of Kyokushin/Enshin/etc.
